TCG Circle: We Hold Up Half the Sky

In this TCG Circle interview as part of the Diversity and Inclusion blog salon, Jacqueline E. Lawton interviews Cynthia Burns Coogan, literary manager, playwright, dramaturg about the staggering disparity between female and male representation in our nations theaters.

As it stands, only 17% of plays produced in the United States and England are by female playwrights.  When asked about a need for gender-based theaters, Coogan replied:

I don’t know that we need gender based theaters, though I celebrate them, but we do need gender consciousness in decision-making.

An interesting read with some well-articulated views on gender parity in the theater.
