COMPANY ONE MONTHLY NEWSLETTER, NOVEMBER 2009

GREETINGS!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

GIVING THANKS

After an amazing run, the C1 Family would like to congratulate the cast and crew of THE OVERWHELMING! Penned as “Sophisticated, charming and lethal” by the Boston Globe, the show took Boston by surprise! Thanks to all who made THE OVERWHELMING a success. We also extend a huge thank you to playwright of THE OVERWHELMING, J.T. Rogers for seeing the show and participating in our riveting post-show discussion! We couldn’t agree more with The South End News when they called the show “BLISTERINGLY BRILLIANT!”

"CHRISTMAS BELLES" ARE RINGING

It's Christmas-time in the small town of Fayro, Texas, and the infamous Futrelle Sisters Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye are not exactly in a festive mood. A cranky Frankie is weeks overdue with her second set of twins. Twink, recently jilted and bitter about it, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the town. And hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye is desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb's Christmas Program from spiraling into chaos. If y'all bring the eggnog, we'll provide all the belly-laughs! Ho-ho!

Christmas Belles features a cast of some of Boston finest talent including Maureen Adduci, Lisa Caron Driscoll, Barbara Douglass, Terrence P. Haddad, Marc Harpin, Rory Kulz, Mary Niederkorn, Heather Peterson, Dave Sanfacon, and Carrie Ann Quinn.

Director Greg Maraio, says "We know this will be a delightfully trashier alternative to the typical Christmas festivities in the Boston area." We can’t wait to see this one!! CLICK HERE to get your tickets now!

Directed by Elliot Norton Award Winner, Summer L. Williams

“This THUNDEROUS new play is STUNNING!”- Variety

Before there was change, there was Birmingham. When Claudette Sullivan is beaten and arrested for taking her little girl into the "white only" restroom at a department store, she finds herself at the heart of the 1960's American Civil Rights Movement. Tensions build in the increasingly hostile South as a trio of emerging black leaders attempts to conquer their individual demons amid death threats from the Ku Klux Klan and wire taps by the FBI. Though the details and characters may be fictionalized, these personal stories are inspired by political upheavals and the historical record, revealing the human frailties behind the historic headlines.

THE GOOD NEGRO is a gripping new play that rips through the pages of history to uncover the human story at the heart of the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement.

Filming for the video trailer just wrapped and rehearsals are more then underway! Keep your eyes peeled for updates and believe us when we say, “GET EXCITED!”

THE GOOD NEGRO is an excellent piece that explores the American Civil Rights Movement in a brand new way! If you are interested in bringing lots of folks to see these show, now is the time to arrange tickets for your group! Please contact Summer at swilliams@companyone.org for more information today!
