COMPANY ONE MONTHLY NEWSLETTER, AUGUST 2009

GREETINGS!

"COMPANY ONE ENDS SEASON WITH A 10 ON THE RICHTER SCALE!"

- Nick Dussalt, The Boston Metro

NEXT UP - SEASON 11

Get excited because Season 11 is jammed packed with New England and World Premieres, exciting playwrights and challenging and hopeful stories!

COMING THIS FALL!

Kicking off our super-sized Season 11 is THE SUPERHEROINE MONOLOGUES* by John Kuntz & Rick Park opening September 10th, back by popular demand! What do you get when you put Wonder Woman, Super Girl, Storm, Lois Lane and the world's most beloved spandex clad females on the same stage? An ass-whooping evening of theatre!

AND...

Next up is a piece that made Variety exclaim, ÒStop the presses! ThereÕs finally a play in town that makes thinking a pleasure again!Ó THE OVERWHELMING by J.T. Rogers is an exotic thriller set in 1994 Rwanda. As an American family travels to the soon to be ravaged country, unexpected truths about themselves and the tiny troubled nation are revealed.

ALSO...

From a writer of The Golden Girls comes a new holiday treat from C1 and Phoenix Theatre Artists to you! CHRISTMAS BELLES* is the must-see holiday show of the season. Put on your cowboy boots, grab your egg-nog and get ready to laugh...

In January, Company One takes a look back at one of the most important social movements in American History. Before there was change, there was Birmingham. Tracey Scott WilsonÕs THE GOOD NEGRO rips through the pages of history to uncover the human story at the heart of the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement.

Company One and Phoenix Theatre Artists are proud to introduce award-winning Canadian playwright Vern Thiessen to Boston audiences. APPLE* is a haunting tale of sex, secrets and second chances.

The C1 Family is proud to continue its commitment to producing new work with this world premiere by local playwright, director and company member Lois Roach. THE EMANCIPATION OF MANDY AND MIZ ELLIE is an examination of life before and after the Emancipation Proclamation. Featuring live percussion and BostonÕs own OrigiNation dance troupe, you wonÕt want to miss this visceral production inspired by progress and hope!

Season 11 ends with the most exciting theatrical event of the year! GRIMM is a brand-new collection of short plays by BostonÕs most celebrated playwrights. Looking for a sweet, soothing tale to carry you away toward dreamland? Look somewhere else. These stories originally by the Brothers Grimm have been remixed, re-imagined and given a fresh Boston twist! Featuring new work by Melinda Lopez (SONIA FLEW), Lydia R. Diamond (STICK FLY, VOYEURS DE VENUS), Ronan Noone (THE ATHEIST), Kirsten Greenidge (103 WITHIN THE VEIL, THE LUCK OF THE IRISH), Marcus Gardley (DANCE OF THE HOLY GHOSTS) and more!

AND...as a special bonus you get 3 chances to see ARTiculation back in Boston! ARTiculation, a poetry-slam turned performance piece, is a slick combination of interactive theatre and urban poetics; a mosaic of life, love, youth, religion, and art using spoken-word poetry, improvisation and a hard hitting hip-hop beat pulling audiences into an artistic revolution built on street rhythms and dynamic live theatre.

Duane Mitchell has been attending C1 shows since 2004. He became an official family member in 2008 and brought a date with him to see ASSASSINS. Well, last week at AFTER THE QUAKE we had the special honor of sharing their one year anniversary! Congratulations Duane and Rebecca! May you be the first of many who find love at a C1 show!
