Education + Outreach:
Overview
Company One uses theatre as a means toward liberated expression, self-confidence and cultural awareness. As actors, producers, and educators, we are committed to teaching and exposing students to theatre and as a means of inspiring creative thinkers, producing well-rounded individuals and a future generation of artists.
In 1999, Stage One began its summer camp at an independent site in the Boston area. Two years later the summer program was invited to be a resident at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, where the curriculum began to evolve into the more intensive training that it is today. Three years ago, Stage One added a modest educational touring production to its roster of programs, which has been gaining recognition since that time. Our newest addition to the programming is the Page to Stage program, bringing high and middle school students into our theatre for special matinee performances.
STAGE ONE: Summer Intensives is our summer training program for teens, ages 14-18, consisting of four 2-week sessions. It is designed to foster each young actor's personal growth and theatrical development. We seek to involve any student who is interested in enriching his or her creativity and artistic education through a rewarding and exciting learning experience. The program gives students an overview of various techniques, which will enhance existing knowledge of art and drama. Through this program, Company One will offer the individual artist a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
ARTICULATION is a touring poetry-slam turned performance piece, following six young poets as they share their amazing love for this art form and the world it has created for them. Since its premiere at the Boston Center for the Arts in August of 2005, ARTiculation has been touring to colleges and high schools across the east coast.
PAGE TO STAGE brings students out of school and into the theatre to experience professional productions and interact with actors, directors and designers in order to inspire students to get involved creatively and to cultivate mentor relationships.
